Wandoan South BESS

NRG-ONE’s services were utilised to deliver Queensland’s largest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for Vena Energy, a $120 million project at Wandoan South in the Surat Basin.

The system can store up to 150MWh of energy, enough to power the equivalent of 57,000 average homes annually.

The Wandoan South BESS project is nationally significant, supporting Australia’s green energy targets, creating grid stability and contributing to an environmentally sustainable energy future throughout Queensland.

Our parent company, NRG Services, was engaged by Doosan GridTech and called on our services to deliver the project for Vena Energy in a tight, 10-month timeframe despite several logistical challenges.

Testament to its success, the project was shortlisted as a finalist for the 2022 Clean Energy Council’s Innovation Award.

In addition, in 2021, Vena Energy won the Battery Storage Deal of the Year award for the Wandoan South BESS at the annual The Asset Triple A Infrastructure Awards.

The Wandoan South BESS is comprised of 21,896 Samsung M3 battery modules.

Vena Energy is a leading renewable energy company in the Asia Pacific region that owns, develops, constructs, operates, manages, and commercialises a renewable energy portfolio totalling 18GW of solar, onshore wind, offshore wind, battery energy storage, and hybrid renewable energy projects.

Doosan GridTech is a global firm delivering flexible and scalable energy storage systems through the design of intelligent, award-winning software built on open standards for the delivery of renewable and sustainable power where and when it is required.

We are proud to have successfully shown our capabilities in such a significant sustainability project in Queensland.
